A Philadelphia Love Story

Maria and Jason first met through a friend in 2004. They hit it off instantly and began seriously dating. Maria is Columbian and her visa unfortunately expired just three months into the couple’s relationship, forcing her to return to Columbia. The couple embarked on a long-distance relationship that lasted more than two years. Finally, Maria was granted a visa and moved back stateside to be near Jason. The two were married and began a life and a family together.

In the beginning of 2015, Maria went in for her first mammogram. She had noticed a change in one of her breasts and was anxious to have it checked out. The scan revealed a mass and a biopsy confirmed the news that she had been dreading. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy in March of 2015, followed by chemotherapy and radiation.  The past spring, the cancer sadly metastasized to her lungs and liver. We’ve loved getting to know Maria and Jason and cannot wait to grant their wish for a vow renewal.

A Long Beach Love Story

Gilbert and Kiletta first met online in 2015. She had been communicating with several different people but kept getting e-mails from the same guy – Gilbert. Initially she was ignoring them because she didn’t think he was the right fit for her. Eventually though, Gilbert’s humor won her over and they talked on the phone for three hours. After that, they met for coffee and have been together ever since. 

After dating for about three years, Gilbert and Kiletta began planning their future together and decided to get married. The wedding plans were immediately put on hold when Gilbert developed a terrible stomach ache. He went to the doctor, had a colonoscopy and a body scan and was sadly diagnosed with stage four colon cancer that had spread to his liver. Gilbert immediately underwent an aggressive chemotherapy treatment plan and is doing his best to remain hopeful with the results.

An Orlando Love Story

Erik and Denise first met at a concert through Erik’s best friend. While at the concert, they flirted and bonded over their mutual love of music. Soon, the couple started dating and quickly fell in love. Three years into their dating relationship, they found out that they were expecting a child. They were married in a small, intimate ceremony and nine months later, welcomed their daughter into the world. Throughout their 25-year marriage, Denise and Erik have weathered a lot of storms, including layoffs, sick parents, moves and new beginnings. Throughout them all, however, their love for one another has only grown. 

 A couple of years ago, Denise had an accidental fall in her kitchen, which resulted in a collapsed lung and five days in the hospital. After recovering from her fall, she continued to feel lousy and often experienced pain and fatigue. Finally, she decided to have her lungs scanned again to assess whether or not she was healed. Much to her dismay, the scan revealed a large amount of spots on her good lung. Further testing revealed the worst. She was diagnosed with lung cancer. She underwent a rigorous chemotherapy and radiation treatment plan and is now doing immunotherapy. Denise and Erik are trying to maintain a positive attitude and are taking life one day at a time.

A Nashville Love Story

Kathy and Tony met on the first day of college when they were just 19 years old. They joined a band together and immediately hit it off. They were engaged by Christmas of that first year and were married the following August – that was 40 years ago! They spent their lives raising two children and building a life together in church ministry. In 2014, Kathy went in for a routine mammogram. Her mother had died of breast cancer so she was always very diligent about getting checked. Her test revealed a cancerous high-grade tumor and she underwent a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. Despite some very troubling eye issues, Kathy was told she was in remission. Much to their dismay, she found out that her cancer had returned with a vengeance in July 2018.

An Ohio Love Story

Courtney and Theresa (Tess) first met online just over five years ago. They wrote to each other for three months before deciding to meet in person. At the time, Courtney lived in Wisconsin, so Tess drove there from OH to meet. The meeting went so well that she decided to stay, for good. After living in Wisconsin for a while, the couple moved back to OH to care for Tess’s ailing mother. It was around that time that Tess began to experience some troubling health problems of her own.

After being hospitalized for a very painful kidney stone just last spring, a CT scan of her kidney revealed nodules on her lungs. Under the advisement of her doctor, Tess underwent some extensive testing, including a mammogram. Sadly, she was diagnosed with stage four triple positive breast cancer that had spread to her bones. She has endured an extensive amount of treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and continues to fight for her life, with Courtney always by her side. Wish Upon a Wedding has loved getting to know these sweet ladies and cannot wait to grant their life-long wish for a wedding.

An OC Love Story

Danielle and Brandon first met when they were just 14 years old and became friends but did not starting dating until they were 20. Once they got together though, they quickly fell in love, became engaged and were married in a quiet court house ceremony on March 17, 2008.

Throughout the years, the couple’s vow to love each other in sickness and in health has been repeatedly put to the test. Starting at around age 26, Danielle began experiencing some troubling health issues and began to have chronic pain issues in her back and hips. In 2015 she discovered an apricot sized lump in her breast but was told that it was benign. Two years later, an MRI revealed a growth in her hip which sadly turned out to be stage 4 breast cancer. Unfortunately, by the time her cancer was discovered, it had advanced considerably. She underwent aggressive chemotherapy for five months but has continued to steadily decline in health. Despite the pain, sickness, and exhaustion she battles on a daily basis, Danielle and Brandon are trying their best to remain hopeful and to savor each moment they have left together. Wish Upon a Wedding loves this sweet couple and cannot wait to grant their very special vow renewal wish.

A Pittsburgh Love Story

Shelley and William first met in 1994 through one of Shelley’s co-workers. They started dating immediately and soon after had their first child. 10 months later they had another baby. The next ten years were spent trying to get to know one another and figure out life with two small children. A few years ago, William began to experience some unexplained health problems. Despite numerous doctor visits, they were never able to get any good answers. On April 11th of last year, William had a stroke and collapsed at the grocery store. He spent the next 77 days in the hospital with a slew of harrowing complications including. On more than one occasion, he was clinging to life. William was ultimately diagnosed with interstitial lung disease with pulmonary fibrosis. His conditioned as progressed considerably and his only hope is a double lung transplant, which as of now, he has not been able to qualify for.

Shelley and William have endured so much over the years and are so excited to renew their vows in front of their family and friends.

A NorCal Love Story

Brook and Mike first met online last summer. They began chatting and decided to meet in person. Within the first few days of hanging out, Brook knew that she had to tell Mike some very hard news. Earlier that year she had been diagnosed with breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes. Much to her surprise, Mike wasn’t scared and told her that he was sticking around. After a couple of failed treatment plans, Brook made the very hard decision to switch to palliative care. Although she struggles with an enormous amount of pain and fatigue on a daily basis, she’s trying to remain positive and be the best mom that she can be to the couple’s combined 9 children.

Rachel and Alvie first met in 2013. After dating for many years and experiencing a series of dramatic ups and downs, including a brain aneurism and a new baby, they wed in a small, intimate ceremony. In addition to a chronic cough, she was suffering from intense rib pain and was struggling to carry their second baby around. Sadly, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer that had spread to her bones.
