An Ohio Love Story
On Tuesday, July 30, 2019, Courtney and Theresa (Tess) will stand before friends and family to pledge their lives to one another and begin a new journey as a married couple. As with all of our wish recipients, Tess and Courtney’s road to the altar has been marked with sickness, struggle and ardent perseverance.
Courtney and Tess first met online just over five years ago. They immediately felt a spark for one another and began writing letters back and forth to get to know each other. At the time, they lived in different states, making meeting up very difficult. After several months of communication, they decided to meet in person. While Tess was on a trip to visit friends, she made a stop in Wisconsin for a first date with Courtney. The trip went so well that she decided to stay – for good.
After living in Wisconsin for a few years, the two decided to move back to Ohio to help care for Tess’s ailing mother. Coincidentally, Tess had begun experiencing some troubling health problems of her own but was unable to find any good answers from her doctors in Wisconsin. After moving to Ohio, Tess was hospitalized for a bout of very painful kidney stones. It was during this visit that a routine CT scan revealed some concerning nodules on her lungs. She immediately underwent a battery of other tests, including a mammogram. The results were devastating. Tess was diagnosed with stage 4 triple positive breast cancer that had spread to her hip.
Since her diagnosis, Tess has endured an extensive amount of treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Despite the painful and exhausting side effects of her treatments, Tess wakes up each day with a cheerful heart and a determined spirit. Wish Upon a Wedding has simply loved getting to know this fun-loving, optimistic couple. We’ve had a ball planning their special day and cannot wait to cheer them on as they say “I do”.
