A Portsmouth Wedding Wish

On November 7, 2021, Elaine and Junior gathered with loved ones at The Elks in beautiful Portsmouth, NH to join their lives in marriage after a 20-year courtship.

Elaine and Junior first met in 1995 while they were both working at the T Bones steakhouse in Salem, New Hampshire. They quickly became friends and spent the next couple of years getting to know each other, all the while, denying that they had developed feelings for one another. Finally, Junior officially asked Elaine to be his girlfriend on his 30th birthday and they’ve been together ever since.

While the couple grew up on the east coast and consider New Hampshire to be home, they moved a few years ago to Ocala, FL where Elaine is working her life’s passion as a horse trainer. Around the time that they were moving, Elaine felt a small lump under her armpit. At the suggestion of her doctor, she underwent a mammogram and ultrasound and was told it was nothing. Although the lump continued to bother her, she tried to forget out it. That is until the problem progressed, resulting in a scary blood clot. Elaine was diagnosed in December of 2015 with stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to her bones and most recently, her liver.

This fun-loving couple sure touched our hearts. We were drawn to their infectious personalities and they’re enduring love for each other.

A Chi Town Wish

On November 7, 2021, Hillary and Tommy stood before their loved ones to commit their lives in marriage LM Studio in Chicago, IL.

Hillary and Tommy first met online in 2016. They went to a concert together and spent the rest of the evening walking around the city. They soon fell in love and got engaged. While the couple had originally planned to get married in Hillary’s hometown of Columbus, OH, in 2020, they ended up having to cancel due to Covid.

It was around this time that Hillary was awoken in the night with a significant pain on her right side. After consulting with a friend who is a physician, she decided to get it checked out. She was given a CT scan at the urgent care that revealed a cyst on her liver. While it was concerning, they were reassured that it was likely nothing to worry about and were referred to a GI doctor. Unfortunately, an MIR revealed that Hillary is suffering from an extremely rare and intensely aggressive form of cancer that has moved into her adrenal gland.

We were touched by this moving story and were eager to grant a wedding wish for this wonderful couple. We loved working with the incredible planning team at Urban Allure Events, led by Kelley and Conley and were blown away by the beautiful day they created.

On October 12, 2021, Ashley and Billy gathered with friends and family at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club to join their lives in marriage.

Ashley has sadly struggled with health issues for her entire life. She was born with Cystic Fibrosis and has battled its many complications for years. In addition to the CF, Ashley has battled Hemachromatosis, a condition that causes the body to absorb too much iron. In 2015, she underwent a complete double lung transplant. She spent a month in the hospital, on and off of a ventilator – and often, clinging to life. While the surgery was successful, Ashley’s Hemachromatosis’s continued to advance, placing her on yet another donor transplant list, this time for a partial liver. Finding a perfect match for “living liver” transplant is very difficult. As fate would have it, Ashley found her perfect match in Billy!

It was an honor meeting Ashley and Billy and granting their wish for a wedding. Our bride stunned in her sleek, gorgeous gown as she and Billy exchanged vows in a touching ceremony beachside ceremony as the waves crashed behind them. We were thrilled to team up with Amanda Crabtree of Spark and Sage Events and loving watching her creativity unfold.

A Tribute to Mandy

On November 17, 2021, Mandy and Ronnie stood with family and friends on the breathtaking grounds of the Barn at Willow Brook to renew their vows.

Amanda and Ronnie first met while working at the same company in 2004. They were both going through painful divorces and became a support to one another. They started dating a year later, instantly fell in love and were married in 2005.

In 2019, Mandy’s doctor noticed some concerning results on a routine blood panel. As a precaution, she underwent a series of liver tests, a biopsy and a colonoscopy. Sadly, the tests revealed a large mass in her colon that had likely been present for years. She was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer that had spread to her liver. Sadly, Mandy lost her battle with cancer on February 5, 2022, less than three months after her gorgeous vow renewal.

We are so honored to have played a small role in Mandy and Ronnie’s story and send all of our love and hugs to their family and friends as they continue to grieve her loss.

A 50th Anniversary Wish

On August 29th, 2021, Belinda and Mike stood before their family and friends to celebrate their love and to renew their vows after 50 years of marriage.

Belinda and Mike have such a beautiful love story. They first met in school, when they were just 14 and 16 years old. As Belinda tells it, Mike left for the summer after 9th grade as a shy, chubby kid and returned 2 months later, a tall, handsome 10th grader. They fell for each other right away and started dating. Two years later, on February 12, 1971, they were married and set off on a journey that has included two children and now four grandsons

In 2012, Belinda began experiencing some concerning issues with memory and time and started having some disturbing hallucinations. As her symptoms continued to progress, they sought the help of a neurologist. After extensive testing, Belinda was sadly diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, a progressive condition similar to Alzheimer’s disease that results in horrendous hallucinations, loss of short-term memory and a decline in movement.

We absolutely loved granting Mike and Belinda’s wish for a vow renewal and were so touched by all of the many wish granters who helped to pull it off.

A Tribute to Ron

On January 9, 2022, Jennifer and Ron gathered with family and friends at the iconic Grand Traverse Resort and Spa to renew their vows after 40 years of marriage.

Jennifer and Ron met at a Memorial Day party when they were just 17 years old. They hit it off immediately and started dating. The next year was a blur as they graduated high school, got married and welcomed their first baby.

Jennifer and Ron spent the next four decade raising a family and enjoying their life in northern Michigan. This past year, however, Ron started to experience some unexplained health issues. He was waking up with swelling in his chest and decided to go it checked out. Ron was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. He immediately began an aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatment program to try to shrink his tumor and prevent his cancer from spreading.

Sadly, Ron’s lost his battle this Monday, just 2 weeks after his and Jennifer’s touching vow renewal wish.

It was honor to have gotten to know Ron and to see the visible love that he had for his precious Jennifer. We will be forever grateful to Alicia Fritz and the entire A Day in May team for their tireless work in creating these lasting memoires for our sweet couple.

A Nashville Wish

On July 25th, 2021, Rachel and Jeff stood before their nearest and dearest to renew their vows to and profess their love for one another on the grounds of the breathtaking Estate at Cherokee Dock.

Rachel and Jeff first met while volunteering at an extracurricular activity in high school when they were just 16 years old. They hit it off immediately and dated for the next year and a half. After high school, they broke up and went their separate ways. Several years later, however, after living through the tragic events of 9/11 in New York City, Jeff decided to reach out to Rachel. The two picked up right where they had left off and have been together ever since. They were engaged in 2003 and were married a year later.

Two years into their marriage, Rachel began experiencing some perplexing health issues. She had come down with a virus that would not go away and was enduring extreme fatigue and heart issues. After several months, she decided to see an autonomic doctor at Vanderbilt. While it took nearly a year and a half to get a diagnosis, the news that she received was heartbreaking. She was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, an incredibly rare condition that breaks down the connective tissue in your body.

We were honored to help Rachel and Jeff with their vow renewal and were thrilled to work with our sweet friend Laurie D’Anne again. Despite the lingering challenges of the Covid pandemic, Laurie was able to secure a wonderful team to pull off this special wish.
