A Westchester County Wish

On September 21, 2021, Nina and Martin stood before their family and friends on a beautiful, sun-soaked day at Briarcliff Manor to join their lives in marriage.

Nina and Martin first met on a dating app about three years ago. They took their time in getting to know one another and found themselves opening up about the personal details of their lives, including Martin’s time in the army and Nina’s health issues. Over time, they fell in love and got engaged. 

Nina has always struggled with health issues. At 13, she was diagnosed with lupus and started seeing a specialist. While it was a long and often difficult road, she was able to learn to control her disease and was feeling hopeful for a healthy future. In May of 2010, however, she had a significant lupus flare up and had to be hospitalized for a short time. It was at home, while she was recovering from her recent bout, that her life changed forever. She had awoken in the morning a significant headache. Hours later, she suffered a massive stroke and collapsed in the bathroom. She spent the next seven days in the ICU and sadly learned that she was now paralyzed on the left side of her body. 

For the last 11 years, Nina has undergone countless hours of rehab and physical therapy and has learned to regain control of her life. While she has no use of her left hand and cannot do many normal activities, like driving, she has learned how to walk again, albeit slowly and for only for short distances. 

We were touched by Nina and Martin’s story and were thrilled to grant their wish for a wedding. We teamed up with Melissa of Events by Missy and Company and were so impressed with the incredible team that she assembled. 

Nina and Martin’s wedding was a dream. From the stately manor to the gorgeous, pastel florals, decadent cuisine and beautiful cake, every little detail was thought of. Nina and Martin caught up with old friends and danced the night away with their loved ones and their sweet pup. 

We are so thankful for the team of wish granters who signed up to shower Nina and Martin with their talents and generosity. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
