On September 28, 2022, Elisa and Jesus will join with family and friends to renew their vows after 22 beautiful years of marriage.

Elisa and Jesus’ love story began in a very surprising manner. In 1999, the two were working at Luby’s restaurant but did not know each other and rarely spoke. After voting for Elisa in a best costume Halloween contest, Jesus got up the courage to talk to Elisa and ended up asking her to marry him. At first, she was confused and thought he was joking. Several weeks later, however, he asked again, and she said yes. They were married a month later at the courthouse, without really knowing each other at all. Less than a year later, they welcomed their first baby.

The couple spent the next 16 years falling deeply in love, raising kids and building a beautiful life together. In 2016, however, things took a turn with Jesus’ health. He had been spending long hours on the road as a truck driver and was experiencing some concerning blood clots and kidney issues. He was diagnosed with kidney disease, but due to multiple complications, was ineligible for a transplant. It was while trying to manage his kidney disease that he also learned of his prostate cancer. He underwent treatment and was able to get his cancer under control. In October of this year, however, Jesus’ cancer metastasized to his lymph nodes and bones. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and fighting hard for his sweet family.
