A Virginia Love Story
On November 13, 2022, Shannon and James will gather with family and friends to renew their vows after 30 years of marriage and to celebrate a love that has persevered through substantial loss and tragedy.
Shannon and James first met in French class at the beginning of high school. They were immediately attracted to each other and soon became good friends. At the school dance that December, James asked Shannon to dance and the two have been together ever since.
The couple was married three years after high school and set off to develop their careers and start their family. For the past 35 years, James has worked in civil service with the military, while Shannon has devoted her life to education โ first as a teacher and then as a librarian. The couple went on to have three children.
In November of 2020, Shannon and James lives changed significantly went Shannon was diagnosed with breast cancer. She immediately started an aggressive treatment plan, which included chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiation, and hormone inhibitors. Unfortunately, the side effects of Shannonโs treatment took a tremendous toll on her, and she was forced to retire from her job.
In the spring of 2022, Shannon and James experienced the unimaginable when their oldest son passed away unexpectedly. They have spent the past 6 month grieving his death, focusing on Shannonโs health, and trying to care for their family. We were deeply moved by this coupleโs story and are truly honored to help them renew their vows.
