Hurray! Our DC Wish Has Been Rescheduled!
After having to sadly postpone Keith and Laura’s wish this past March, we are thrilled to announce that we will be granting this much deserved vow renewal on October 15, 2020! While a lot has changed in the last 7 months, including our team of wish granters, one thing has remained the same – Keith and Laura are still as sweet as ever and are fighting hard to stay upbeat and healthy. Here’s a recap of their beautiful love story, as well as, our new list of wish granters.
Keith and Laura first met in 1990 when a mutual friend introduced them. Keith was a few years older than Laura and had been previously married with three young children. The two immediately hit it off and started dating. It wasn’t long before things became serious. They moved to Florida together and were married soon after. The couple spent the next twenty years expanding their family, adding three additional children of their own, growing their careers and seeking new adventures, including a four-year stint in Iowa.
In 2018, Keith and Laura left Iowa and moved back to Florida, only to have their lives turned upside down. Keith had begun experiencing some troubling health concerns, including rapid weight loss and food regurgitation. He went to his doctor to get checked out and was sadly diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation and an incredibly invasive surgery to have his esophagus removed.
Last September, Keith’s cancer returned and metastasized, forcing the couple to moved to Maryland to be closer to Keith’s family and to receive treatment at John Hopkins. Despite his often-debilitating side effects, Keith is trying is best to remain upbeat and hopeful. He’s been forced to retire from his long career in roofing, creating a unique switch in roles, as Laura has gone back to work as a paralegal.
We have truly loved getting to know this wonderful couple and cannot wait to grant their wish for a much-deserved vow renewal. We feel incredibly fortunate to have team up with Jessica Ashely of Jessica Ashley Events and Rebecca Hicks of Pen to Paper Events and have already fallen head over heels for the unbelievable team of wish granters that she has lined up.
