A Salt Lake Love Story

On February 2, 2022, Kari and Aaron will stand before family and friends to renew their vows and to celebrate a love that has persevered through years of sickness and trial.

Kari and Aaron first met on blind date in college. Although they went to different schools, Kari’s roommate dated Aaron’s brother and the two set them up. Their first date was magical. They spent the evening talking, listening to music and dancing. That night, Kari told her mom that she had met the man she would marry.

Kari and Aaron wasted no time in preparing for the future. After meeting in August, they married just four months later, and soon began to expand their family. About a year into marriage, Aaron started getting sick frequently. So much so, that the couple had to move into his parents house and Kari went to work to support them. After undergoing numerous tests, Aaron was diagnosed with Chrones disease. While it took years to figure out how to manage his illness, Eric was eventually able to finish college and advance his career. The couple went on to have four boys.

In 2015, Kari started to notice some changes in her breast. Initially, she didn’t think much of it. After some time, however, the breast became engorged, and she went to get it checked out. Sadly, her mammogram revealed the worst. Kari was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. She underwent an intense chemotherapy regiment, followed by a double mastectomy and the removal of her ovaries and her gallbladder.

Unfortunately, Kari’s cancer has continued to progress, and has moved into her bones. She has had numerous surgeries to repair the many bones that have broken in her body because of her cancer and deals with pain and exhaustion daily.

We loved meeting Kari and Aaron and learning about their sweet story. Although they married young and admit that they hardly knew each other, their relationship has grown throughout the years, and they have seen each other through many dark days.

We were blessed to meet an incredible planning team in Ally and Kristin of Poppy Lane Events and can’t wait to see what they have in store for our lovely couple.
