A DC Wish - COVID Style

On October 15, 2020, Laura and Keith gathered with a few friends and family to renew their vows on the gorgeous grounds of Stone Tower Winery in Leesburg, VA. From start to finish, the day was filled with sunshine, laughter, music and love.

Keith and Laura first met in 1990 when a mutual friend introduced them. They hit it off immediately and started dating. It wasn’t long before things became serious. They moved to Florida together and were married soon after. The couple spent the next twenty years expanding their family, growing their careers and seeking new adventures

In 2018, their lives took an unexpected turn. Keith had begun experiencing some troubling health concerns, including rapid weight loss and food regurgitation. He went to his doctor to get checked out and was sadly diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation and an incredibly invasive surgery to have his esophagus removed.

Last September, Keith’s cancer returned and metastasized, forcing the couple to move to Maryland to be closer to Keith’s family and to receive treatment at John Hopkins. Despite the often-debilitating side effects, Keith is trying is best to remain upbeat and hopeful. He’s been forced to retire from his long career in roofing, creating a unique switch in roles, as Laura has gone back to work as a paralegal.

We had originally scheduled this wish for March 19, 2020 but had to cancel it at the last minute when Washington DC shut down for the COVID pandemic. Thankfully, we were able to retain our amazing team of wish granters and finally granted Keith and Laura a fairy tale vow renewal.

So many thanks go out to our exceptional planning team, Jessica, with Jessica Ashley Events and Rebecca with Pen to Paper Events for their hard work, creativity, tenacity and joyful hearts. From the couple’s touching vows to the delicious brunch, breathtaking flowers and awesome music, the day could not have been more perfect. While the event had to be kept small to maintain safety, there was certainly no shortage of love to go around.

We are eternally grateful for all of the incredible wish granters who made this day possible. We know that it’s been very difficult year for everyone and are humbled by the generosity of these special people.
