Wish Upon a Wedding’s Founder Liz Guthrie has been an event planner for nearly two decades. Her unique background includes a degree in Business Communications and work experience in the nonprofit sector, hotel industry, airline industry, and in catering management.
Liz Guthrie’s passion for professional event planning began when she launched her career in 1993 at the Yacht and Beach Club Resort, one of Walt Disney World’s top hotels. Her “Disney Experience” included constant training in how to make every customer feel important. This is a lesson she has carried with her throughout every job she has held since that time, and one she applies while running the behind-the-scenes operations at Wish Upon a Wedding.
After Disney, she went on to become a flight attendant for 12 years, but resigned when she became a mom and began working closer to home. During all this time, she also maintained her career as an event planner for hotels and catering companies, as well as producing large-scale nonprofit events.
In 2007, she opened her own event planning company in San Jose, CA, which eventually lead to the birth of Wish Upon a Wedding.
No matter what her “day job” has been, Liz remains an avid volunteer in her community. From coaching Special Olympics to leading her daughter’s Brownie Troop, donating her time and helping others is what makes her heart truly happy.
