Northern California Vow Renewal- Shannan and David

kx8a9014
On Friday October 28th, 2016, Wish Upon A Wedding granted Shannan and David’s vow renewal wish  at 48 Barn in Visalia, California. Close friends and family joined them in costume to celebrate and share in the renewal of their vows after 10 years of marriage.  The bride and groom were all smiles as they greeted guests and danced the night away.
img_7002

Shannan and David both admit the past 10 years have not been easy. Their son was diagnosed with cancer at 18 months and a little over four years later Shannan received her Breast Cancer diagnosis. Shannan has undergone a hysterectomy, double mastectomy and numerous rounds of radiation and chemo treatments. However, even with everything they have been through, Shannan believes the difficult times have only brought them closer as a couple.

img_6967

The couple requested a Halloween themed vow renewal and Erika Grubb of Erika Amelia Event Design & Planning was instrumental in making it happen. This night would not have been possible without all of the help and amazing donations from our wish granters. Shannan said the day was “everything we wanted and more”.

Wish Upon a Wedding would like to thank the generous Wish Granters who donated 100% of their product and services to grant Shannan & Davids wedding wish:

A Northern California Love Story: Shannan and David

img_6831

Shannan and David met through friends on March 30th, 2006 and there was an instant connection. Five days later they had their first date and two months after that David proposed. They married that same year, on October 27th 2006 and now have four wonderful children.

img_6841

The fight against cancer started in their family when their youngest son was diagnosed at the age of 18 months. Three months after he was stable Shannan was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She suffered a stroke during her treatment that has left her unable to continue her job as an educational interpreter for the deaf. Thankfully, after a hysterectomy, chemo, radiation, and a double mastectomy Shannan is now considered stable. Unfortunately, this year Shannan and David’s son’s cancer has returned. Through all the ups and downs the family remains positive and strong.

After 10 years of marriage, and multiple obstacles Shannan and David’s relationship only continues to grow stronger. They are looking forward to celebrating life and love at their 10 year vow renewal with close friends and family at the beautiful 48 Barn in Visalia, California this Fall.  Wedding Planner Erika from Erika Amalia Event Design & Planning has been instrumental in helping to bring this wish together.

Jessie Paré
aaeaaqaaaaaaaaavaaaajgezmzvjnjjjltm1ogitnda2os05ogm2lwqwnzawowewzdvjma

Jessie got her start in the wedding industry shortly after her own wedding, where she was inspired by an incredible team of vendors. She had just received her teaching degree as the teachers union went on strike, which she took as a sign to get involved with the industry she truly loved.

Jessie began her career at the Chicago History Museum, where she spent a year and a half before taking a position in events at the W Hotels of Chicago. She has recently joined the team at Calihan Catering as a Sales Account Executive and is absolutely loving it.

Most inspiring to us is Jessie’s unparalleled dedication to philanthropy and putting good into the world. She is lucky enough to have both a mother and a wife who have inspired her with their constant acts of selflessness and random acts of kindness. They have inspired her to find ways to give back not only in the wedding community but in our local and global community. For the past 3 years she has passionately helped collect silent auction donations for Wish Upon a Wedding. For the past year, she has focused on finding simple every day ways to give back in hopes of inspiring others to do the same. This past Christmas she eliminated gift giving in her household and adopted a refugee family instead. Both she and her wife’s places of work were so inspired that they did the same!

Jessie recently turned 30 and, instead of throwing a big milestone birthday party, she started a feminine hygiene product drive in order to supply women in need with basic items unavailable to them. She was so overwhelmed by the response of her friends and family, that she was able to supply 3 shelters. She is a firm believer that we can find ways to give back every single day!

Please join us at this year’s 7th Annual Blissful Wishes Ball, Monday, November 7th, 2016 at Morgan Manufacturing. Tickets are available by clicking here

A Love Story: Anne and Jon, Wish Upon a Wedding’s 100th Wish!

Anne and Jon are set to wed October 23rd, 2016 as the Chicago Chapter grants Wish Upon a Wedding’s 100th wish!

Wish Upon a Wedding and the Chicago Chapter is pleased to announce that the organization’s 100th wish will be granted on October 23rd right here in Chicago, and we are truly honored to witness the love between two amazing and deserving individuals.

cp2_1331

From their very first date to unique plans to “wow” guests at their upcoming wedding celebration, Anne and Jon’s relationship has always been full of fun, energy, and the perfect blend of two admittedly silly personalities.

The couple met online back in 2008, just soon after Anne had undergone a mastectomy to treat her Stage 0 breast cancer. The two spent their first date talking, laughing, and breaking the ice over a few games of bowling. Anne was never a proponent for awkward first date dinners, so the friendly competition put her immediately at ease and left a lasting impression; so lasting in fact, that she still remembers the shirt she was wearing and it remains in her closet to this day! The evening went so well that they decided to see each other the very next day, where the two took Anne’s then baby to the local forest preserve and spent a relaxing, low key day overlooking the water and getting to know one another. Anne shared that “It was as if he was immediately part of my normal life. We didn’t need a million dates; he was just part of our family.”cp2_1380

At the time that Anne met Jon, she struggled with the confidence that a man would want to be a part of her life. With the recent surgery and two sons, one of whom was born with a chromosomal disorder and is unable to walk or speak, she felt it might be too much. After just a few short days, it was clear that being a part of Anne and her children’s lives was exactly what Jon wanted. “He reassured me that it’s what’s on the inside that truly matters,” Anne remembers. “He was so great with my kids, and he immediately comforted me.”

Since the early days of their relationship, Anne and Jon added a third son to their growing family and now have a full house of 3 boys, 2 dogs, and even rabbits who have their own house in the garden (custom built for Anne by Jon, of course). Unfortunately, in October of 2014, a routine scan showed that Anne’s cancer had returned in the form of Stage 4 Metastatic breast cancer, and although their lives have certainly changed with some days more difficult than others, the couple maintains a positive spirit and environment for their family. They frequently host large BBQs in their yard for all of the neighborhood kids to join in, and love to take the family camping, fishing, and to local fairs on the weekends.

When asked what Anne loves about Jon the most, she replied “His smile. He has the best smile. He’s also incredibly handy. From plumbing to construction, he does it all!” Jon echoed “(Anne) is amazing. She handles everything for everyone and always puts herself last. She never asks for herself. She is wonderful.”

The Chicago Chapter is incredibly honored to host the wedding of such a loving and fun-spirited couple October 23, 2016 at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel amongst their three sons and closest loved ones.

Karen and Lonnie’s Wish Granted in Philadelphia

 Lonnie.Karen.Wishuponawedding
On Sunday May 22, 2016, Lonnie and Karen’s Wish Upon a Wedding wish came true in Philadelphia at the esteemed Top of the Tower overlooking the couples’ beloved city. The bride, Karen, was positively glowing and the groom, Lonnie, beamed from within as they wed in front of their family and friends. Lonnie has been battling colon cancer and has undergone multiple surgeries and hospital stays. Lonnie is currently undergoing chemotherapy, a process that has taken over a year to complete. But with all that they are dealing with, they still wanted to become husband and wife and celebrate with family and friends.

It was quite clear to all in attendance how important family really is to Lonnie and Karen. During the ceremony, the bride opted to walk halfway down the aisle with her father, and then walked the second half of the aisle with her brother. What a beautiful way to share the meaningful role of escorting Karen in to the ceremony.  Later, when it came time to dance, Karen shared a dance with her father and also shared a special dance with her two sons (there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!).

The couple requested a classically elegant Parisian theme, which Eventricity pulled off with small Eiffel towers and gorgeous linens. Top of the Tower provided a delicious brunch buffet and Desserts by Dana made a delicious cake for the wedding guests to enjoy.  Silver Sound DJs kept the celebration going until the last guest exited the building.

The couple had learned about Wish Upon a Wedding while watching Good Day Philadelphia. Karen and Lonnie had looked forward to this day and told us they were so happy and blessed to be married. We were so honored to have been able to play a role in making this dream a reality for Lonnie and Karen, and we wish them the best.

A special thank you to our Wish Upon a Wedding Wish Granters. Without them, this wish would not be possible. Thank you so much for your generous spirit and kind hearts in helping with this wedding wish!
