Michael and Tonica met online eleven years ago. After talking over the phone for a while (necessary since they lived 80 miles apart at the time) they decided to meet up for their first date. They both knew, at the very least, if the date didn’t work out they had a lot in common and would remain friends. The date however, exceeded expectations and there were many more to follow. Seven years later in 2014 Michael asked Tonica to marry him, and she agreed.
Instead of planning their wedding right after the engagement, they postponed the wedding to buy their dream home with the hopes of one day getting married on their own property. After multiple projects, including a complete barn rehab they finally started to think about their dream wedding.
Unfortunately, around this same time Michael suffered a seizure unexpectedly while driving. This seizure is what would lead the doctors to find his lung cancer. Michael was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer, in August 2016, which he is currently undergoing treatment for.
Through the good times and bad they have stuck together, and grown even closer. “We are committed to having a relationship that our children can be proud of and one that they would want,” said Tonica. The wedding is now more important than ever for them because “tomorrow is not promised” said Tonica. The couple is looking forward to celebrating their love surrounded by close friends and family.
