Love Story: Lori & Mark, 30 Years in the Making

Lori and Mark’s story first started in 1981 at Bolingbrook High School when they shared the same group of friends and classmates. After graduation, they didn’t keep in touch, but reconnected in 2004 via, and then again in 2011 on Facebook.

Mark was previously adamant about not joining Facebook, but one day in the Spring of 2011, he decided on a whim to join on his new smartphone. Lori contacted him the very next day. The sparks flew right away and their romance was a whirlwind. Within a month, they knew that this was much more than just re-kindling an old friendship – they were meant to be together. Mark proposed a few short months later at midnight on New Years Eve, the perfect entrance into the new year.

They started planning a destination wedding set for August 2012. Despite the excitement of their upcoming nuptials, their happiness was short-lived when Lori found a lump in her breast that Spring. She was soon diagnosed with breast cancer, had a lumpectomy in May, and was scheduled to start chemotherapy in July. By that point, they knew that their summer wedding plans were out of the question. Throughout this difficult time, Mark was a source of inspiration and strength, and Lori could not have made it through the ordeal without his love and support.

When Lori heard about Wish Upon a Wedding through one of the nurses at her Oncologist’s office, it seemed like it was meant to be! They are now excitedly planning their romantic, vintage-inspired, St. Patrick’s Day wedding at Room 1520 with the help of Planner, Beth Bernstein of SQN Events.
