When Kristy saw our last Wish Upon a Wedding wish recipients Monica and Deshawn on the news, she rushed to the WUW website and applied for her very own wish.
Kristy and Tony have been together for 11 years; they met at a party through a mutual friend, and Kristy said she immediately knew Tony was a keeper. On their first date, they went to the park, walked around and talked for hours and—of course—swung on the swings.
They knew for a long time they wanted to get married and spend the rest of their lives together, but they decided to wait until circumstances were better and when they could have the special wedding they envisioned.
But life took an unexpected turn for Kristy and Tony: In September 2011, Kristy was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Tony has been a constant source of strength for Kristy, supporting her through regular chemotherapy treatments by taking her to doctor appointments and handling much of the housework. According to Tony, seeing Kristy push through her illness inspires him to be a better person.
“Tony has been the best fiancé anyone could ask for. He helps me, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I love him more and more everyday! He is truly my soul mate,” Kristy said.
While Kristy’s diagnosis has indeed been a concern for the couple, their worry does not end there: Kristy’s mom is currently in the hospital after having a heart attack and battling multiple ailments. It is extremely important for both Kristy and Tony that Kristy’s mom is able to see them walk down the aisle.
“Right now, I am trying to take care of my mother as well [as] myself. It is not easy trying to take care of someone when you’re sick yourself; I am more worried about my mother than myself,” Kristy said.
Kristy and Tony will be granted a wedding they truly deserve on September 4, 2012. Kristy is most looking forward to their first dance to Beyoncé’s “Dangerously in Love,” and Tony is most excited to see Kristy walk down the aisle!
