From their very first date to unique plans to “wow” guests at their upcoming wedding celebration, Anne and Jon’s relationship has always been full of fun, energy, and the perfect blend of two admittedly silly personalities.

The couple met online back in 2008, just soon after Anne had undergone a mastectomy to treat her Stage 0 breast cancer. The two spent their first date talking, laughing, and breaking the ice over a few games of bowling. Anne was never a proponent for awkward first date dinners, so the friendly competition put her immediately at ease and left a lasting impression; so lasting in fact, that she still remembers the shirt she was wearing and it remains in her closet to this day! The evening went so well that they decided to see each other the very next day, where the two took Anne’s then baby to the local forest preserve and spent a relaxing, low key day overlooking the water and getting to know one another. Anne shared that “It was as if he was immediately part of my normal life. We didn’t need a million dates; he was just part of our family.”cp2_1380

At the time that Anne met Jon, she struggled with the confidence that a man would want to be a part of her life. With the recent surgery and two sons, one of whom was born with a chromosomal disorder and is unable to walk or speak, she felt it might be too much. After just a few short days, it was clear that being a part of Anne and her children’s lives was exactly what Jon wanted. “He reassured me that it’s what’s on the inside that truly matters,” Anne remembers. “He was so great with my kids, and he immediately comforted me.”

Since the early days of their relationship, Anne and Jon added a third son to their growing family and now have a full house of 3 boys, 2 dogs, and even rabbits who have their own house in the garden (custom built for Anne by Jon, of course). Unfortunately, in October of 2014, a routine scan showed that Anne’s cancer had returned in the form of Stage 4 Metastatic breast cancer, and although their lives have certainly changed with some days more difficult than others, the couple maintains a positive spirit and environment for their family. They frequently host large BBQs in their yard for all of the neighborhood kids to join in, and love to take the family camping, fishing, and to local fairs on the weekends.

When asked what Anne loves about Jon the most, she replied “His smile. He has the best smile. He’s also incredibly handy. From plumbing to construction, he does it all!” Jon echoed “(Anne) is amazing. She handles everything for everyone and always puts herself last. She never asks for herself. She is wonderful.”

The Chicago Chapter is incredibly honored to host the wedding of such a loving and fun-spirited couple October 23, 2016 at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel amongst their three sons and closest loved ones.
