Jared and Stacy met at a Nascar race and instantly found their connection through easy conversation and laughter and it’s that laughter that has continued every day that is getting them through the tough times they’re facing. Jared was diagnosed with a brain tumor on September 11, 2008 and almost immediately had two surgeries to remove the tumor.
The 2nd surgery was successful and they followed it up with rounds of chemotherapy and radiation for a year before they stopped that treatment as he was doing so well. He had a recurrence 6 months later and for the past 18 months they’ve been travelling to Washington DC for Jared to get experimental drug treatment. Stacy’s father passed away from cancer when she was younger so she knew what to expect when they got the news that Jared had his tumor but it certainly doesn’t make it any easier. They knew it was going to be a tough road but that together they could get through it.
Jared decided to propose to Stacy at Christmas because it was Stacy’s favorite time of year. A few years ago he purchased a snow globe for Stacy that had a cancer ribbon on it in memory of her father but they never got it engraved. Jared was able to sneak it off the night stand and get it engraved with “Will you Marry me? Yes or no?” and put it in a box with the ring so that Stacey could open it on Christmas Eve. And of course the answer was “YES!”.
As anyone who plans a wedding knows how much time is required and with the trips to DC and the added stressors of treatment, the plans have been slow moving. The nurses at the hospital would frequently call Stacy Jared’s wife and on the one time that she corrected them, one of them mentioned that they should reach out to us.
And we could not be more thankful that they did. Their infectious laughter has rubbed off on all of us and we’re all so blessed to have met them. We could not be more excited for their wedding day! Congratulations to you both!
