Dreaming of Being President? Board Members “Lead by Example”.

Welcome to the first installment of our series, “Lead by Example”. Wish Upon a Wedding will be turning 2 years old this January. That means that while many are staying, other board members who have dedicated their service to us as Founders will soon be moving on… And we are inviting a new group of skilled and passionate philanthropists to fill the highest ranks of our organization.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll feature one board position, letting you know what it takes to fill each important role as a LEADER of our organization. We encourage you to get involved by applying for ANY of our nationwide chapters.

And if you want to be really involved with the policy making and growth of Wish Upon a Wedding, why not apply to fill a NATIONAL role? The National Board is made up of leaders from all across the nation!

So, if you are thinking of being PRESIDENT, here is what we are looking for:

WHAT IS A WUW PRESIDENT ? A natural leader who is self-motivated. A WUW President has strong communication skills, and is fair and organized. While a professional event planner is preferred, we also envision someone with experience in managing groups of people. This is for a TWO YEAR TERM Apply here.

Convene regularly scheduled board meetings, following WUW board meeting guidelines and Robert’s Rules of Order.
Ensure all board members have received and signed their contracts.
Ensure that all board members are familiar with important operational documents, and review these documents at actual board meetings on a regular basis.
Ensure all board members are using WUW online communication tools, including email and file sharing.
Familiarize yourself with all Standard Operating Procedures for all board members, and ensure these guidelines are being followed.
Ensure that your board is performing at their optimum.
Conduct any Conflict Resolution within your chapter.
Conduct voting in of and swearing in of all new board members.
Inform Wish Recipients when their Wedding Wishes have been approved/denied.
Sit in on quarterly conference calls conducted by the National President.
Relay important National information to all of your board members in a timely fashion. Support decisions being made by National and be prepared to explain the reasons for these decisions to your board of directors.
Represent WUW to the press and your community.
Write a monthly board report and submit it to the National Board of Directors.

NATIONAL PRESIDENT Additional Roles : Oversee all chapters across the country, conduct quarterly calls, handle conflicts that arise within the chapters and during normal business activities. Represent the organization to national media sources.
